Basic Needs

Supporting basic needs is a foundation of our work. We provide grants for rent and utilities, food, health assistance/prescriptions and safety from domestic violence. Without having their basic needs met, children can’t learn in school, families can’t be financially stable and individuals and families can’t enjoy good health.

When access to basic needs is not in place, the consequences may be severe. United Way is committed to focusing on our 10 year goals in education, financial stability, and health, we are aware of the need to help people of all ages with the critical issues they face on a daily basis.

 

These categories are key areas focused on in our grant funding:

  • Rent & Utilities -Financial assistance to help low-income individuals or families in crisis situations. Programs that provide individuals or families with emergency financial assistance for a variety of crisis situations including eviction, foreclosure and utility shut-off notices.
  • Food - Prepared meal distribution (either home delivery or congregate settings) to people experiencing food insecurity and food distribution to people experiencing food insecurity.
  • Health Assistance/Prescriptions -Prescription assistance for low-income, uninsured residents. As well as, access to mental and physical health care for low-income, uninsured residents.
  • Safety from Domestic Violence - Support to victims of domestic and sexual abuse and interventions directed at stabilizing individuals and families who have been traumatized or abused.
