A resilient community is one that can anticipate, withstand, adapt to, and recover from economic, social, natural, man-made or other crises -- emerging stronger than before. At United Way, we believe that when we mobilize the caring power of our communities, there is no obstacle we can't overcome so that all can thrive.
We move communities to action, from the moment crises strike through long-term recovery.
By mobilizing the right people and resources at the right times, we equip communities to navigate urgent challenges today and build a better tomorrow.

Disaster Relief and Recovery
In the wake of disasters, United Way steps in to provide help and hope. And long after the media loses interest in the impacted communities, we continue to help people recover and rebuild.
Collaborations
United Way advances community resiliency by listening to and learning from our neighbors to understand the challenges that need to be addressed, identify the assets that exist to help address them and assess the gaps that need to be filled. This is accomplished by convening community stakeholders including local residents, employers, government representatives and community-serving organizations to co-create locally relevant and effective solutions. United Way fosters social connectiveness and trust by amplifying neglected voices, strengthening interpersonal relationships across all community stakeholders using data to inform and validate solutions and delivering impactful results.
United Way of Kaw Valley thrives to build a community culture that is forward-looking, solutions-oriented, inclusive and mutually supportive, so that when disruptions occur, the community is ready and willing to respond with compassion and care. By mobilizing people to take action, United Way works to advance the common good by encouraging volunteering of time, talent and expertise to directly assist neighbors in need. United Way also encourages the community to be involved by donating money to expand the reach of proven programs that benefit many in the community and advocating for policies that can create widespread positive change for people at the local, state or federal level.
Capacity Building
United Way brings people and organizations together to take action to build stronger communities. We work along with cross-sector partners, exploring challenges and innovations to make every community resilient by listening to and learning from our neighbors to understand the challenges that need to be addressed and assess the gaps that need to be filled by convening community stakeholders to co-create locally relevant and effective solutions.
